My Guitar - A pillar of support

Updated: Mar 18, 2022

Featuring the best of my collection - The Vintage Gordon Giltrap signature V2000MGG.

Over the years, as I got better as a guitarist, I needed to have an instrument that complemented the skills that I acquired through my experience. I started with a simple Granada beginner's guitar, followed by a Yamaha C70 which I still use for my training in western classical guitar. I also have an Ibanez SA160FM electric guitar which I use for my band performances. The Vintage V2000MGG, is the fourth of my collection and my favourite of the lot.

Guitarist Gordon Giltrap and his creation

Unboxing the features of this iconic guitar.

The V2000MGG is a Signature Acoustic guitar designed by Gordon Giltrap in collaboration with Vintage Guitars. Gordon Giltrap is regarded as one of the greatest acoustic guitar players in the world. He has been around since the 1960's with 30 albums to his credit and has inspired a whole generation of acoustic guitarists over six decades.

He co-designed this guitar with master luthier Rob Armstrong who handcrafted the original instrument for Gordon in 1980 which he still plays to this day. This is a novel crossover between the Grand Auditorium and the 000 styled acoustic guitars, with high-grade solid North American cedar top, mahogany back and sides. The small-waist body and Rob's unique headstock design are the highlight of this signature series. The bridge is high grade rosewood, with a gradually compensated natural bone saddle providing excellent intonation, whilst the mahogany neck comes with a top quality rosewood fingerboard, with genuine abalone inlays and side dot markers. For the electrics, I set this guitar up with the LR Baggs 'Element' acoustic guitar pickup, that perfectly transmits this guitar's pristine sound to a large audience. The guitars of this series come with a majestic and well built case that adds a touch of class and safety to this acoustic gem.

Gordon comments

"My original guitar has a very strong treble with a sort of springy and expressive sound to the bass end. The new Vintage guitar has all of this combined with an overall warmth and balance to its tonality."

Watch him demonstrate his creation in the video below.
